Are Your People A’s, B’s or C’s?
Nov 13, 2024
In chapter 2 of my new book, I talk about how Bradford D. Smart’s book, "Topgrading", really helped me understand how to improve my hiring process. It helped me find people who weren’t just good at their jobs but were also really passionate about what they do.
This book taught me a system for hiring and retaining the best talent for the job, not just someone who is capable of doing the job.
Smart advocates hiring and retaining ‘A’ players, who are the top 10% of your people in any given role. ‘A’ players not only perform, but they also help drive the success of the business.
So, how do you distinguish ‘A’ players from ‘B’ and ‘C’ players?
‘A’ players are your top performers. They consistently exceed expectations, are highly skilled, motivated and driven to excel.
‘B’ Players are solid performers who meet expectations but may not go the extra mile. They are competent but may lack the drive or ambition to become great.
‘C’ Players are people who consistently under perform or fail to meet expectations. They may lack the necessary skills, motivation or attitude to succeed.
Who are your A, B and C players? And how can you get more ‘A’ players in your team?
