As I took an hour away from my husband and young children and walked on the beach on a beautiful morning, the perfect looking size 6 woman overtook me and started walking just in front. All the men walking on the opposite side whatever thier age looked at her - some stared and others were literally drooling. Women too would look but not for too long and looked ahead almost ignoring her. I was left wondering if she gets this all the time.
And then I found myself comparing my size 12 body to hers. Not many people were staring at me although many said hello. Was I more approachable because of who I was or the size I was? Should I be losing weight? Maybe I should make that as part of my 2012 goals. I started to notice how many times I used the word should!
With some of my learnings around self worth, I started to tell myself how much I loved me for being me. It is important not to compare yourself in a way that puts yourself down (or up) too much. Keep yourself balanced and humble. She is who she is and I am who I am. I have some qualities that she may not have and vice versa.
Likewise our business is the same. Try not to compare your businesses to others. Learn to appreciate what you have. Business is the opposite of body size. We want to have a bigger business than someone else in our industry. Learn to love your business whatever size it is and then work on what you want to do rather than getting into a rut of beating someone else. This way you feel good enought whatever you are and become passionate about yourself.
